SONAR is a specialty herbicide that controls many species of aquatic weeds. Very effective on duckweed and milfoil.
Vascular Aquatic Plants Controlled by Sonar include: Common Duckweed, Spatterdock, Water Lily, Bladderwort, Coontail, Common Elodea, Brazilian Elodea, Cabomba, Hydrilla, Naiad, Pondweed (Potamogeton spp., except Illinois Pondweed), and Watermilfoil.
Vascular Aquatic Plants Partially Controlled by Sonar include: Common Watermeal, Alligatorweed, American Lotus, Cattail, Creeping Waterprimrose, Parrotfeather, Smartweed, Spikerush, Waterpurslane, Watershield, Illinois Pondweed, Limnophila, American Eelgrass, Variable-leaf Watermilfoil.
Sonar should be applied early in the season, prior to or just after plant growth begins. Treatments last for several seasons in many cases. Sonar is absorbed by the plants and inhibits the weeds’ ability to make food, causing it to die.
Initial results can be seen in 10 days. Complete kill can take 30 to 90 days.
Sonar is effective in extremely low concentrations. Therefore relatively little material is required compared to other liquid herbicides.
Recommended Application rates vary from 10-90 Parts per Billion (1-7.7 fluid ounces per acre-foot) according to specific conditions. Always read and follow label instructions for actual application concentrations.
Available in four sizes: 8 oz., Pint, Quart, and Gallon.
