Pond Aeration System
A pond aeration system – form or function?
There’s nothing quite like the experience of walking into your backyard and taking in the sights and sounds of a beautiful pond. More and more people are opting to incorporate water into their property for its relaxation and entertainment value. Having a pond means deciding whether to have a pond aeration system. You can choose based on form or function, based on what you’re looking for – relaxation or entertainment – from your pond. So which camp do you fall in?
Camp Form
The beautiful aesthetic value of a fountain offers the calming sound of trickling water and a pleasing sight for the eyes. Walking out into your backyard becomes a restorative experience.
Depending on your style, your pond’s natural beauty can either be enhanced by the fountain, or the fountain can become the focal point of your view. Camp “form” cares about the look and the feel of the experience – the calming effect that moving water and beauty offers to the weary – make visiting your backyard oasis a transformative experience of tranquility.
Fountains come in all shapes and sizes – from the traditional to the modern to the downright eclectic and funky. Some could even be considered works of art.
Camp Function
Now let’s look at the function behind a pond aerator. Apart from having a pleasant experience, you probably also want to extend the life and health of your pond.
This might be of paramount concern, particularly if you plan to fish or visit your pond for activities like swimming or paddle boarding. Who wants to swim in stagnant water? No one – because the overgrowth of muck and parasitic plants set off a chain reaction culminating in unpleasant gasses built up under the surface of the water. P – U! A pond aeration system keeps the water moving, providing vital oxygen throughout the various layers of the pond, and keeps the ecosystem operating optimally.
Here’s the great news! You don’t have to choose.
With a pond aerator fountain, you can have your cake and eat it too! The fountain provides the aesthetic beauty of a focal point for your pond, the soothing sound of moving water, and the oxygenation for your pond. How does this work? The water that’s propelled into the air, breaks into small droplets. These droplets have a large collective surface area through which oxygen can be transferred. So when these oxygenated droplets mix with the pond, the oxygen transfers into the water.
Here’s the techy part.
Pond aeration systems that include fountains provide both surface aeration and subsurface aeration. Oxygen is driven into the water from the agitation of the water hitting the surface from the fountain spray and into the lower levels of the water from a diffuser. So from that standpoint, you’re also getting the efficiency of two “birds” with one “stone” so to speak.
In this way, the health of your pond can be supported by a pond aeration system that gives you the best of both worlds, so that you can experience a spa-like atmosphere when you want to wind down (with a pond aerator fountain) or a back-yard adventure when you want to have some fun (with the oxygenation it provides).
Do all pond aerators require electricity?
No. So don’t worry if your property is spread out. A solar pond aerator offers form and function for those ponds that do not have access to an electricity source nearby. Windmills also offer wind power to pond aeration systems, with a charming aesthetic to boot.
